Description

Towards the end the 1990s, a wave of protests emerged around the world directed at neoliberal globalisation. Attac Sweden was founded in 2001 as a part of this movement. This thesis explores the different ways in which Attac Sweden relates to and interprets being part of a global movement. By examining the organisation’s analysis of globalisation, organisational structure and ways of mobilising around specific political issues, the author analyses the central themes of knowledge production, collective identity, globalisation and political action.

By conducting an anthropological study of Attac Sweden, the author places the organisation within the Swedish political context. Attac Sweden’s history and development, initial success and subsequent decline form the background to this study.

Knowledge as action aims to contribute to debates of knowledge, social movements and globalisation.

This book is a PhD thesis at the department of Social Anthropology, Lund University.
